At OVPolymers, we are constantly exploring ways to turn sustainable material use into practical solutions for everyday life. Our Re-Brew Cups, made from spent coffee grounds and recycled plastics, demonstrate that this approach can make a real difference for the climate.

We recently completed a Climate Impact Forecast, comparing the CO₂ impact of Re-Brew Cups with single-use paper cups and ceramic cups. The results are striking.

Reuse Outperforms Single-Use

A single Re-Brew Cup, used for 2.000 consumptions, saves 21,5 kg CO₂ compared to 1,000 disposable cups. One reusable cup already has a significant impact over its lifetime.

On a larger scale, a medium/large sized office using 5.000 Re-Brew Cups could save 107.371 kg CO₂.

Impact You Can Visualize

To put it into perspective, this saving is roughly equivalent to:

5.113 trees
536.856 km of driving
102 return flights Amsterdam–New York
15 households’ annual emissions

Why the Re-Brew Cup Works

The Re-Brew Cup is effective because of circular design principles:

  • It repurposes a waste stream of coffee grounds that would otherwise be discarded.
  • The material is partially biobased, combining sustainability with durability.
  • It is lightweight, dishwasher-safe, and designed for up to 1.000 dishwasher cycles.

Compared to ceramic cups, the savings are slightly smaller due to the significant impact of dishwashing over 1.000 cycles. Still, the Re-Brew Cup is a climate-friendly alternative to single-use cups.

Conclusion:

The Re-Brew Cup transforms coffee waste into a climate solution. Its combination of waste-based materials, reusability, and thoughtful design results in measurable CO₂ reductions, whether for individual users or large-scale office setups.
